What is a holistic dentist?

A holistic dentist (sometimes called a biological dentist) is a licensed dentist — DDS or DMD — who emphasizes materials choices, oral–system connections, and often mercury-amalgam alternatives alongside standard dental care.

“Holistic” and “biological” are practice approaches, not separate dental licenses. The clinician still needs a state dental license. Some pursue extra training through groups such as the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT) or similar continuing education; that training is voluntary and does not replace state licensure.

When comparing practices, ask which materials they use and avoid, how they handle amalgam removal if offered, whether they coordinate with your physician, and what your state dental board lists for their license status. Listings here are a directory, not treatment advice.
